Leaflet plugin Geosearch in Laravel

I'm currently having trouble adding my first leaflet plugin in my laravel 5.5 project.

The plugin I want to add is the following: Leaflet Geosearch

The problem I have is, even though I follow the instructions in the readme file, I get the following error:

Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token {

This error makes reference to the following line:

import { GeoSearchControl, OpenStreetMapProvider } from "leaflet-geosearch";

It seems to be a problem with 'import', right? Does anyone have any clue?
