Execute custom middleware in order in Laravel

Is there a way to execute a middleware created by myself in a given order, without overriding the $middlewarePriority in Illuminate\Foundation\Http\Kernel? The problem is that if I override this property, I will have to maintain it it in accordance with the changes of every Laravel upgrade I make in the future.
