Laravel - All the models linked to api instead of database

I need to begin the develop of an webapp. I am going to use Laravel but I wanna connect the models directly to an API instead of database. although my knowledge of laravel is not extense,I cant figure how can accomplish this task.

Which process I have to follow? Do I have to write a new driver maybe? Or even with a Service Provider?

Give me some clue please about how to start please.
