Custom authentication laravel 5

So I have been using laravel for some time,now I need to implement a custom authentication.

The built-in Auth facade doesnt apply to my needs. There are absolutely no references for customising the default implementation of the Authentication in laravel 5.The laravel documentation is no help and assumes the default implementation to good enough for most applications.

Are there are any references or guides for custom authentication in laravel 5?
