what is purpose of laravel jobs?

I just want to understand that what is purpose of laravel job? I mean it only do processing behind the scenes or it also complete long process at any cost?

I mean we have job which is create pdf of 2000 database record but that job got failed for that much of record. It means that it only hide the process and complete it behind the scenes. it doesn;t work for long process.

For long process it gives timeout error . May be some of you advice me to increase timeout but is it proper solution moreover what will be memory consumption than?
