Is it Safe to increase LimitRequestFieldSize in Apache HTTP for 400 Bad Request

We have been facing issue with some of our end user reporting 400 Bad Request. On investigation, we observed that our end user request crosses the default value of LimitRequestFieldSize in Apache i.e 8190.

On increasing this to 10200 we could get this issue resolved.

We have many third party services which we use for our site and the cookie length of the same is beyond our control.

We would like to know how safe it it to increase the limit on the Security and Performance aspects.

Also, is there anything from the application level which we can implement. Our application uses LAMP stack.

It would be great if any pointers are provided.

Thanks

Regards

Charles
